Illegal waste detection

“Let’s clean up Hungary” program started in the autumn of 2020. The government announced a nationwide program for the detection and removal of illegal waste with a budget of several billion forints.

The national waste management strategy has also been completed and will be presented by the government (ITM) in September, in which the detection, identification and removal of illegal waste will play an important role.

In this project, we sought to answer the question of whether a pile of landfilled waste could be traced using drones. Or whether their composition can be identified.

Detecting and identifying different types of waste and materials is only possible with using different spectral cameras.

After the drone reconnaissance, a 3D polygon mesh is stretched on the topography, which allows us to estimate the extent and volume of the loaded waste pile with good approximation accuracy.
